Week ending 27/5/16

Not so much a feature as a lesson worth remembering. Remember to insert a record after assigning the key fields and then use modify when adding more fields for the same record.
Developments completed last week included 5 xmls for receipt of data from EPOS system to allow creation of items, journal adjustments, POs, receipts and sales. Included page to show unprocessed xml files and types with page actions to process and move selected xmls. We also finished the main company configuration and changed this following xml file loads. [Nav 2016]. Amended PO import dataport [Nav 2009 Classic] to allow adding new lines to existing POs. Original created new POs and lines. Amended customer sales history by month for last 3 years to include total for report. [Nav app 2009, database v4].
Created step by step instructions for resource creation, sales quote creation and how to use make order functionality from sales quotes. Client's database has a bespoke check for a populated external document number. [Nav2013r2]. Created instructions on how to create new region codes and assign to vendors and customers. [Nav 2013r2].
First line support issues resolved re error on creating a closing year end journal. Issue as the existence of a number of journal line dimensions for same batch. Odd. [Nav v5 DE].
That's it for this week folks. Holidays soon! :)

Week ending 20/5/16

Features discovered last week in Dynamics Nav include the new features of Dynamics Nav 2016 (like the c/side code prompts, not sure re user setup, permissions and role centres) and a learning curve in EPOS to xmls in Dynamics Nav 2016. See facebook updates for our learning curve re xmls (MinOccurs=zero, optional property on node names).
Work completed this week:
EPOS data to Dynamics Nav development re xmls started in earnest this week. Configured 1 xml to receive data last week, writing code to process the data this week. Also started the new company configuration last week and all configured but client yet to confirm their chart of accounts so that is stalled. Need this asap this week otherwise go live under threat. [Nav 2016].
Development completed included extending 'Post and email' functionality to 'Post, email and print' on service invoices, then extended same functionality to sales invoices and then adapted this to email pdfs for sales orders and quotes. [Nav 2013r2]. Completed BACS extract for Lloyds (very complicated compared to Nat West) and delivered to client for testing. [Nav 2013r2].  Developed specific field permission for posting an order as an invoice and requested test database access from a client to load in for testing. Basically uses user setup table and posting codeunit (minor change). [Nav 2013r2].
Other work included creating a new test company as a current copy of the live (love the way this can be done in Nav 2013r2 and beyond, so easy) and configured latest test company for sales quotes and resources for user testing this week pre go live next week. Spent some time this week configuring bespoke role centre for a new user (extended table fields, creating new role centre page after creating new activities page) and configured 2 new users for a client. [Nav 2013r2].
So busy week with this week being busy as well.
That's all for now folks.

Monday 16 May 2016

Week ending 12/5/16

A busy week. 2 on site visits to the same client: one to complete the client's management accounts (penultimate as new FC recruited) and the second to demo off the shelf functionality re sales quotes orders and resources. All went well and now implementation date for sales quotes and resources set for 2 weeks with a test company fully configured for use end of this week. Also client requested a few minor bespoke changes so will do that as well. [Nav 2013r2].
Configuration and data loads completed this week included UK data load for misc service contract data and comments (client bespoke data) which is not being tested by client [Nav 2013r2].
Developments completed included minor changes to some account schedules reports re column layout changes as a result of a confirmed date filter [Nav 2009 RTC].
Ongoing bug issue re sales price excel upload re closing dates for previous entries. Tried one fix which worked but then created other issues. Need to resolve this week. [Nav 2009 Classic application, v4 database].
New implementation for client on Nav 2016 to start in earnest this week. We now have the correct edition (CU6) so we are starting the basic configuration today and related development work later this week.
Spent a little time this week on cue cards and related changes which showed their power and the amount of work involved in configuring (more than I thought).
So busy week ahead and no client visits.
Onwards and upwards.

Week ending 6/5/16

This was a quiet week but an exciting one for new customers / potential new customers and submitting quotes.
First point though: just discovered the way you can add a program to the start up menu in windows 10. Why do I need? We have a Teamviewer licence and up until a few windows updates ago this auto loaded on booting up. We had ticked the relevant box on the Teamviewer app. But now it does not. I blame windows. So using run, shell:startup you can add any application short cut. Ok so not Nav but still worthy of note especially for us as we have multiple machines on different versions of Nav (v4,2009,2013,2013r2,2015,2016) and different editions of Nav. So easier for us to control and work on these PCs remotely.
Anyway Nav work completed this week:
Developments - completed and demonstrated phase 1 of misc contract data and now have the go ahead to implement. Just awaiting UK data map from spreadsheet data reference to contract number in Nav and then we can set a go live date. US data already converted and loaded. Also created a new profile to access this new area including cue cards. Latter quite complex but done. Requires some deep thinking about what you want. [Nav 2013r2].
Configurations - set up resources, sales quotes and SOPs for a client to demo the end of this week. [Nav 2013r2].
Attended site this week for 1 client (on site support) and a potential client (pre sales and since submitted a quote for approval) covering Nav 2013r2 and Nav 2016. Fingers crossed quote is approved and if so a new client and again Nav 2016!!
New client gained this week following 2 months emailing and phone conversations. Quote approved and go live date (Nav 2016, new company, xml loads) set for end of May which is very tight to get xml loads (5) working. But exciting stuff!
So for actual work completed, as I say a quiet week. For prospects, great week!
Plans for this week are 2 client site visits and create and submit 3-4 quotes from last week.
That's all for this week folks. Keep cool but remember the weather will be back to normal end of this week.

Monday 2 May 2016

Week ending 29/4/16

Work completed last week included on site support visits (1 for Dynamics Nav support and the other for super user training part 2), completion of the ERP Solution requirements paper for a client and completion of phase 1 development for sundry data associated with service contracts.
The super user training was the 2nd part of a 2 day course. This time we ran through all the outstanding developments the client had listed with their MS Partner and I showed them how to resolve and we did. Seemed to go well.
The service contract sundries development was completed after a meeting and a demo of a development to date. Now the development is complete and some data migration completed in readiness for a final run through tomorrow at a client site.
Received 6 queries on the first draft ERP requirements paper submitted to the client and answered all of them. The client has now published the paper to prospective suppliers and my job is done.
Other work completed last week included minor amendments to some production reports [Nav 2009 app, v4 database].
On the prospects front, on ongoing conversation (2 months to date) on assisting a UK business configure and tailor a new UK Nav 2016 database re-ignited this week with a conversation with the client's Italian MS Partner (client based in Europe) to agree how we can help. As a result, quote confirmed and so the likelihood of this turning into a sale hopefully good. And received an enquiry this week re helping on a Nav 2016 database from London. As a result attending site this week for a pre sales meeting.
So what's on this week: client site attendance to run through service contract sundries development and pre sales meeting with prospective client on how we can help. Fingers crossed on the latter one!
That's if for this week folks!
