Week ending 20/2/15

Decided Mondays a better day for updating the blog.
Quiet week last week probably due to half term week. Also on the Dynamics Nav side of the business there have been 2 of our clients where there has been a change in our key contact. Which puts all potential / booked work on hold for a few months.
So work completed last week was as follows:
Developments -
Rewrote item sales forecast report to include all historic item sales, new item sales forecast data and released / firm planned production orders. Previous report derived a list of item / customers using historic sales data.
Created a new report to calculate a safety stock quantity using vendor lead times and anticipated sales. The report then compares this value to the current safety stock quantity.
Further requests for data from Nav for migration to another application. This time for a month's transactions for purchase ledger (invoices posted, payments made) and general ledger. Sample files requested from us and we started work on this last week. Proposing, given the mix of data, to use dataports, include headers and then collect data not in main tables into globals. This work will be completed this week.
First line support-
Slot booked this week with German subsidiary of client for 2 hour Nav run through via TeamViewer for new member of staff.
Resolved default dimension posting for legacy data feeds caused by bespoke change to posting codeunit 12 to take all balance sheet type general ledger account postings to fixed dimension value. User had made a change to the general ledger account to make ot a balance sheet type account so bespoke forced dimension code triggered.
Made minor bug fix change to a client's aged stock report that picks up the last sales date. Used incorrect key that included location code. Needed just the item number and posting date key.
Made minor change to a report to include description 2 off the item record.
Received an enquiry re archiving Navision 2.01 - or at least how to ensure read only access. Responded and offered more help but no further emails. very old version - came out in 2000.
Outside Nav, updated the web pages for more recent content and slight change to layout. Checked Google Analytics and we get a high per cent bounce rate so made some changes to try and resolve this.
That's it for this week. On reflection did not seem a busy week but varied!

Week ending 13/2/15

A bit late I know! :)
Still a quiet on the accounts and tax side but we did start auto enrolment pensions process for a client. Their go live date is October 2015. So registered with Now! Pensions (obviously client decision but taken from a short list of acknowledged service providers as per pensions regulator and our payroll software). So initial registration complete so just waiting for confirmation from Now! Pensions as to when employee master file can be completed. Instructions somewhat confusing so queried but awaiting confirmation. I would imagine too early for master file upload right now.
On the Dynamics Nav side, the following work completed this week:
Developments:
Display message confirming component / BOM stock shortage when sales order status changed from Open to Released. Confirm box requests user approval to continue with change of status. Slight restriction re max text size for v4 database objects in v2009 application (250 v 1000) but worked round it.
Changes to standard Nav customer statement re line details.
Auto populate assigned user id with user id.
First line support:
Strange text overflow error in v5 DE when in Balance by Dimensions with exclude closing entries Fixed with increase in text size to 1000.
Provide general ledger entries list for client auditors as requested.
Basically a quiet week for first line support. I would expect this week to be even quieter as it is half term. Catch up on my reading then!
No new client enquiries but some quotes still awaiting sign off.
So that's all for this week. On a personal front managed to book 4 weeks holiday spread over March (South West), April (Chester), June (Cheltenham) and August (Stirling). Still planning trip to London end of September and Suffolk end of July.

Week ending 6/2/15

Welcome to the latest blog! Very quiet on the accounts / tax side as the deadline for personal tax returns has passed and so the rush is over for another year!
Busy week on Dynamics Nav. Completed:
On site visit with more work as a result re sales forecasting. Started this work this week with it due to be completed next week. Discrete set of objects so low risk development. There will be standard object links to the new objects. Client also requested changes re sales person table for blocking old codes and more identifying markers re sales person codes. This change completed and loaded today.
2 quotes approved this week. 1 for bulk stock which was started and completed this week. Another for a Show Document action button off the general ledger entries screen to remove requirement for a number of mouse clicks to view a posted purchase or sales invoice.
Support work completed this week for a number of clients included posting date issues re user set up table where login user id either different to user set up table or not exist. Both fixed. Other support for extracting general ledger register data and general ledger entries for a client's auditors and object changes listed for calendar year 2014.
Training enquiry from a potential new client for a introduction to Dynamics Nav. Quote confirmed and waiting for approval. Training enquiry from a current client with proposed dates. Just waiting to hear which dates preferred.
Still a few quotes awaiting approval covering a number of modules so fingers crossed these will all be approved next week.
That's all for this week folks. A much busier week so let's hope this is a sign of things to come!
