No rest for the wicked!

Another busy week!
Met up with another Dynamics Nav consultant that lives locally. Always good to get new contacts just in case I get overloaded.
Work this week has included the new 3 days a week on site for a client. Various bits of work completed on site including fixed assets data migration and balance off the FA note, report developments and general support advice on Navision v4 SP3. Contract lasts until beginning of Dec 2011 and loads of work to keep me busy until then. This client also required a pure Dynamics Nav developer as one that was scheduled failed to turn up. Recommended a colleague who is being interviewed Tuesday next week. He will be a good resource for then as he has been a developer for more than 10 years.
Also completed some data migration for Navision v4. Customers and vendors. More data migration re opening transactions etc to follow in the next 2 weeks.
On site for another client on the day they started to use Dynamics Nav 2009 Classic. Sat in the background providing advice / fixes as required. Went well!
Various other support issues that arose in the week resolved.
That's all for now!

Tuesday 11 October 2011

Another day another dollar....

Another busy week. On client site for 2 days this week with a regular 3 days a week on site attendance each week for the next 2 months. First day managed to resolve a coding issue in bespoke Nav v4 for the same client.
More development work completed for another client on Dynamics Nav 2009 RTC. Amended undo ship and undo receipt codeunit to allow GL codes as well as items codes. Not sure why not included by default as the impact is minimal. Fix to ensure Sell to customer price and discount groups takes precedence over Bill to. Changes to posting options re Ship/Invoice/Ship & Invoice and Receive/Invoice/Receive and Invoice to remove latter option from each and ensure Receive / Ship is default option for user. New customer statement report created and tested for same client.
User testing about to start on major development for another client. Hopefully all will be ok and I can then transfer to live and, more importantly, bill. Need to remember to multiple next quote for this client by a factor of 2 to account for extended time it takes for user tests.
Not much happening on book keeping side. Staff waiting for me to review.
Completed all initial config and data migration work for one client on Dynamics Nav v5. Just need to complete customer statement development.
That's all for now folks!

Friday 7 October 2011

It is the week end tomorrow....

Thank goodness.
Busy week again for Dynamics Nav (Navision) work. 2 go lives this week - 1 for a client whon has managed his own data migration. We have been the support act as and when required. Gone very well. The other go live is going well as well. Data migration complete. Loads of user queries re missing data. This go live had a very quick turnaround from sign off of quote (2 weeks ago) to actual go live - this week. Basically create a new business on the same database, configure and migrate data to ensure users can use.
Phone calls this week re potential Dynamics Nav work. Time will tell as to whether we get more business. More quotes submitted to existing clients for work development and configuration work. One client needs new businesses in Nav with base configuration followed by data migration (masters, open items and TB history).
Out at new client for 3 days next week providing Nav support for an existing old implementation. Navision v4.
Apart from that, not much happening! :)

Friday 23 September 2011

Has been a while....

No blogs for ages. Busy busy which is good for the business.
Cracking August and September looking good as well.
Dynamics Nav work in progress at the moment is configuration and data migration for a client including recreating sales and purchase documents in a new business on a Nav v5 database. Completed work to date on client go live for week after next. Advisory role supporting key project resource at client. Client completing most of the data migration using the tools in Nav 2009. Go live on RTC.
Most of the way through some big developments for another client for Nav 2009 Classic. Changes still coming through at this late stage but all complete. Started a smaller Nav 2009 Classis development for the same client this week. Will be done and dusted by mid week next week.
On the accounts side, quite a few clients needing some annual accounts (for one client we already do their management accounts each month) and tax returns etc. Need to get these completed asap and then charge.
On the administration front, gave notice to quit office space this week. We will be out of these offices by mid December. Back to the office in the back garden at home. Need to sort out all the admin associated with the move including packing up all the files and terminating various agreements re telephone and broadband.
Feels like more than this has been happening but that is all I can think of for the moment.
Nevermind - week end tomorrow.

Tuesday 23 August 2011

In Hungary training users on Dynamics Nav

And it is hot! 33C! Day 1 of training done and dusted! Slow to start (had to set up user ids, request sql access for users, create RDP sessions) so the 8am start did not happen until 12 Noon. Bit late. Then went back to an Hungarian school for lunch (very nice too though still hot) and I am now back in the hotel with the air con on. Just raided the mini bar for fizzy orange. Lager shortly will be consumed as well.
New skills learnt this week / last week include completing a Dynamics Nav 2009 R2 'upgrade' - it isn't an upgrade but a re-install. Hungary language pack installation and bespoke translation loads. I have also learnt that the Hungarian language has a lot of z's in it!
Lovely country I have to say and the people are friendly. Got a tray full of baking this morning which was very nice!
That's all for now.

Friday 19 August 2011

An odd time for a blog yet again but...

Hello all! On a Dynamics Nav training half day for a client which starts at 9.30am hence the blog now. Followed by a Dynamics Nav R2 install this afternoon. Busy busy!
While on teh subject of the R2 install, it shoudl actually be an upgrade! But it actually requires the removal of Dynamics Nav 2009 SP1 and install R2. Not an upgrade then!
Spent most of this week out of the office at client sites. Hungary visit confirmed - flying out Monday next week back Friday. Providing Dynamics Nav 2009 Classic training for all base modules. Should be interesting as I do not speak Hungarian. I have done this type of thing before - in Switzerland a few years ago. Worked very well considering the language issue so keeping my fingers crossed. Only downside compared to Hungary is that what I say will be translated so the training will take twice as long. Installing Hungarian language pack today as well which will help the training next week.
That's all for now!

Wednesday 10 August 2011

Busy, busy, busy

Busy week for work this week. Just completed 2 day user training for Dynamics Nav 2009 Classic on the basic financial modules including purchase and sales order processing and stock master maintenance. New client and all went well! Follow up session to be completed when client goes live on Dynamics Nav. Dynamics Nav 15 day development making progress with emails working with email templates. Demo of development to date to client Finance Director tomorrow. R2 installation for Friday deferred until next Friday when we are on site anyway to provide more user training - again on sales and purchase order processing except for the 2009 RTC interface not Classic. Hungary training visit still on the cards for week commencing 22nd August. Traveling arrangements and other details to be confirmed next week. Out Monday, Tuesday and Friday next week at client sites so another busy week ahead! Good for the self employed!
That's all for today!

Thursday 4 August 2011

Quick blog!

Just a quick blog today. Busy which is good for the self employed!
Dynamics Nav work since last blog includes ongoing development for sales operation. Due for completion mid week next week for user demo. User demo booked for a week today. Got faxing from Nav working today. Currently working on pdf file creation for faxing and emailing.
Quite a few support issues over the last few days some of which triggered developments, approval of quote and delivery. Fast!! Just taken a Dynamics Nav user through dimensions and what needs to be done to ensure they work as required. Just requires a little forethought!
Minor amendments requested and completed for a development that is now in live. Requested today, completed today and loaded onto the test database for testing.
Client books are mounting up for their annual accounts prep. Should complete this in the next 2 weeks.
No demo of the Dynamics Nav development on client site today (as originally planned) as too early in development cycle. Only on day 5 of 15 day development so managing expectations very important.
That's all for now!

Wednesday 3 August 2011

An odd time for a blog......

Usually do these blogs after a day's work but it has been busy busy.
On the Dynamics Nav front, in the last week we have completed super user training, started a 15 day development for a client, extracted client bespoke UK captions for translation into Hungarian (will become clearer later on), billed (very important) and booked most of next week out at clients.
Next week we will install R2 and the Hungarian language pack for a client (clearer now eh!) ready for a training visit by me to Hungary late August 2011! I am training Hungarians on the use of Dynamics Nav. Database based in the UK with relevant language pack installed.
Client books are coming on. 1 set ready bar final tick off, another nearly ready. 3rd set will be ready for me to review next week.
And isn't it hot!!!

Tuesday 26 July 2011

Tusday already!

Managed to finish one set of accounts and tax calcs for a client at last! I have been meaning to do for 2 weeks.Final review including tick off this week, accounts to be published and bill to client sent. Another set of accounts to follow later in the week if I can get Excel to behave. Bizarre issue with calculations!!
Busy week on Dynamics Nav. Preparing training material for on site training mid August for Dynamics Nav 2009 R2 Classic. Pulled together detailed spec and quote for major development on Nav. Phone call to discuss later today and hopefully approval of PO. Required urgently by client so sign off and approval of PO needs to be today. Ongoing support for another client for Nav including menusuite fix for changes to pages on RTC. Must remember to compile replacement object, create partner menusuite. Then the users can see the changes. This is a step forward???? Easier to develop in Classic on forms. Never mind, change happens for the better apparently!
That's all for now! More news re major and urgent development tomorrow.

Tuesday 19 July 2011

Busy day!

Attended Dynamics Nav related client site today for confirmation of requirements. Confirmed quote this afternoon - just - after mapping out the process and how Nav would have to be developed / configured to meet the requirements. Required urgently by client. Lets hope they go for it! Sign off required in the next week to meet the client's deadline. Sending on supporting process later in the week.
Also completed data cleansing upload for client on Dynamics Nav. Customer address details.
Had an MS Accounting query today. First time in a year. Responded but not sure I was much help. Cancelled MS Accounting related domains today. No need for them. This package is dead!
Off to the South West tomorrow to de-clutter. Busy, busy, busy!!!
That's all for now folks. Hometime!

Monday 18 July 2011

The start of another week...

Everyone in so noise levels back to normal. Think I prefer that to no noise like last Friday.
Out this week to sort out bungalow in South West for renting.
Waiting to here from telephone and email enquiries from last week and still keeping my fingers crossed. All for Dynamics Nav.
Over the week end received an customer enquiry for Dynamics Nav training in Eastern Europe. Followed this up today by pencilling in a week in late August 2011. Yet to agree the details but more work at least. This triggered a follow up from a quote supplied 2 months ago so may be this will be signed off. Agains fingers crossed.
Received an Dynamics Nav enquiry from a customer that has been quiet for some time. Quoted for.
Client visit tomorrow to review development requirement and confirm quote.
That's all for today!
In short, some noise re enquiries on Dynamics Nav.

Friday 15 July 2011

Friday!

No blog yesterday as I was out at a client site. Managed to resolve Dynamics Nav 2009 installation issues and restore live database for client. Amended web page to offer this service to clients. See what happens! And the client I was at confirmed deadline for implementation and there may be a need for my skills to ensure deadline met. Again fingers crossed!
Yesterday was a day for receiving emails requesting quotes for Dynamics Nav work. Responded to all today so here's hoping some of them are approved. Meeting next week to discuss more development in  more detail. Sometimes it is easier to discuss rather than just read a spec.
Happy birthday to Geoffrey! My grandson is 1 today. His grandad feeling a little older but definitely no wiser. Looking forward to tomorrow's party and the fact I can walk round and therefore celebrate his birthday by drinking some alcohol!
More mailshot letters out today re chasing Dynamics Nav work. To Sheffield businesses.
Agree terms today for renting out South West holiday home. We are just not using it so no reason why it should not work harder to generate revenue for the family! Need to de-clutter next week ready for week commencing 25th July.
And today I have been in the office on my own. Got loads done as it was so quiet. So who from Paul, Emily and Sara wants to own up to be the noisy one? ;)
That's all for now! Have a great week end. Off to post mailshot letters and may have an ice cream!

Wednesday 13 July 2011

Another week another dollar!

Booked for a client visit tomorrow re Dynamics Nav sql install, backup and restore of local database and some data migration for opening customer and vendor ledger entries. Also received development quote request from a client for a Dynamics Nav form for easing data input for telesales.
Phone call yesterday from potential Dynamics Nav client from the South West as a result, I presume, of the web site updates completed last week re base of operation in North Cornwall. Waiting to hear if they want to use us or not next week. Fingers crossed.
Signed up for monitor based advertising in a local post office. Based on data given, cheaper than leaflet dropping in the same area each week. Again fingers crossed we get some clients from this.
Fixed short cuts issue for another Dynamics Nav client. Issue caused by closing off user access to Fin Man module. Also received request for loading in clensed data onto a client's Dynamics Nav database. Will be completed Friday morning.
That's all for now!

Tuesday 12 July 2011

So who noticed that there was no blog yesterday?

Oops! Forgot! Never mind. All this work re web presence, web site changes and linked in appears to be having some effect! We are getting some phone calls on various Nav related matters. Fingers crossed something comes of our responses! Also some reaction to leaflet drop for IT services and bookkeeping. Got some work off that!
Now advertising on LinkedIn for a week. Not cheap but having established all these links, may be advertising Dynamics Nav services will work for us. Don't know. Set the daily budget to $10 and this ran out within 2 hours. Ok that proves the adverts are viewed. But no clicks and therefore no enquiries. Set up Dynamics Nav advert to run on LinkedIn for a week to see what reaction there is.
Started some annual accounts work for some clients with a view to finishing by the end of next week.
Forgot to mention PO received from new customer yesterday re Dynamics Nav. Noteworthy event but lets hope this is a sign of things to come! :)

Thursday 7 July 2011

At least tomorrow's Friday!

Quiet day today. Some phone calls showing some interest in services but nothing committed or definite. Paul and I started work today on latest Dynamics Nav development signed off. Will finish next week when some details confirmed by client.
Tomorrow I will start the bookkeeping jobs done by Emily. I just create the annual accounts from the books Emily creates. 2 clients to finish off and then bill! Received the books today for another client so that work will start next week. Emily and Sara on a leaflet drop locally.
Conference call on new process requirement from client. They have a workaround for now but require a quote for the full solution. Similar requirement to another process in Nav so not major work. But workaround will work well for them so don't think this will be a runner.
Client will confirm tomorrow on site attendance next week for Dynamics Nav support.
Short update today!

Wednesday 6 July 2011

Go live date today!

MBS Navision version 4 development go live date today. Took longer than expected but they usually do. Not so much loading the deveopment itself, usually managing the old data affected by the development. Loads of it to amend and it took 2 hours! Down to our excellent internet connection (NOT) as provided by BT! All done. Some queries as a result which will be fixed.
Also prospective bookkeeping and tax client came to see me last night. Quotes to do today / tomorrow and hopefully he will sign up. Resulting from leaflet drop.
Forgot to mention mailshot sent this week advertising our Dynamics Nav services and how we can provide these services locally to Devon and Cornwall from a base of operation in North Cornwall.
Still adding each day to LinkedIn potential connections based on membership of same group and people I know that I did not realise were on LinkedIn. Now have 118 connections. Will any work come from these connections? Don't know. Only time will tell.
Still no response from enquiries re Dynamics Nav hosting so I have responded accordingly to prospective client. Need a contact for the future. I wonder who will show some enthusiasm?
That's all for now folks. Conference call with client in 5 minutes and another one tomorrow. Hoping tomorrow's conference call will lead to some work!

Tuesday 5 July 2011

So what has been happening today?

Getting geared up for a client Dynamics Nav development go live tomorrow. Load in some amended objects, add some menus to the Navigation Pane in version 4 and then load in some data. Simple enough. Backed up all affected objects off the client's live database so I have a fall back position. So I am ready!
Discovered you can have a business facebook page. Started it today. Tried to book an advert but the authorisation process crashed. Will try again tomorrow. Charging mechanism works in the same way as Google adds i.e. cost per click. I thought it was worth a punt!
Apart from that, a quiet day. Must be the heat!

Monday 4 July 2011

Printers bloody printers!

What a pain printers are! Never mind - resolved by switching the print off and then on and when that did not work switching my laptop off and then on again.
Another mailshot out today to Nav contacts. Fingers crossed get some reaction. Web pages updated for new business base in North Cornwall.
Dynamics Nav support completed today for feedback on reports created for a client. Still to fix report issue for cash flow development completed for a client.
That's all for today!

Friday 1 July 2011

Thank goodness it is a Friday!

Busy admin day today. Raising all the fixed price support Dynamics Nav invoices for July 2011, billings for June 2011 work. More activity on LinkedIn. More connections. Will anything come of these? Worst case scenario is that I end up with related contacts for work I cannot do for a client or prospective client.
As a small business, related business contacts vital so that if I cannot provide the requested service, I can recommend someone who can.
Case in point today. Contact from prospective Dynamics Nav client today re quote. Also included a request for any contacts for Dynamics Nav hosting. So I have sent some emails out to businesses I know and no replies as yet. Watch this space.
Begs the question how quickly would you respond to a new business request. For us it would be within 30 minutes - always! For others it would appear to be sometime in the future.
New bookkeeping client prospect this week from leaflet drops in East Bridgford. He was going to pop in earlier this week but hasn't as yet. Chased him up this morning and he was chuffed I wanted the business and was chasing it. It is all about finding the balance when chasing. Most of the time patience is required. It certainly is for Dynamics Nav prospects.
In the mean time, if you know of anyone that provides Dynamics Nav hosting that has a good reputation, email me at neil.fraser@fraserpriceconsulting.co.uk.
Have a great week end!

Thursday 30 June 2011

Another day another blog!

Still pushing for more customers! July and August each year are our quiet months for Dynamics Nav! So updated the web pages to show 20% reduction promotion for these months. Then sent an email to existing clients to confirm reduced rates for all purchase orders place in these months. Already had a response from 2 clients. Begs the question whether our Dynamics Nav day rates are too expensive! We are at least 20% less than Dynamics Nav Solution Centre rates before the special promotion - some Solution Centres charge £1k per day compared to our rate of £550 per day!
Also spent a lot of time requesting new relevant connections on LinkedIn. Relevant again defined as either being relevant to our services. So fellow Dynamics Nav professionals or accountants.
That's all for now folks!

Wednesday 29 June 2011

I know what you are thinking - 2 blogs in 1 day!

Another update as promised in the last blog of this morning!
Picked up comments via LinkedIn that potential customers like to view customer testimonials. So I have spent this week collecting these and updating the web pages with a new page and link. Started with a template confirming services and some comments. Most agreed by clients. Then asked for a summary comment for each client. Had some back and these are now loaded onto the usual web sites:
www.dynamicsconsultant.co.uk
www.navisionconsultant.co.uk
www.fraserpriceconsulting.co.uk
At the moment these are testimonials for Dynamics Nav work. In July we will collect and post non Dynamics Nav work.
As more summary comments come in from clients, the websites above will be updated.
As my kids would say, 'laters'.

Has it really been that long?

Time flies when you are having fun! ;)
It has been such a long time since I last posted something to this blog. Lot has been going on and now I have time to post a blog entry.
Now in generating new customer mode hoping to get more and more Dynamics Nav customers. Since the last blog we have managed to secure 2 more customers. Doesn't sound much but that is not bad when you are relying on the web search engines and a bit of luck to get new customers.
The Dynamics Nav reselling channel is managed by Microsoft. All potential customer enquiries are pushed to Dynamics Nav Solution Centre. We are not big enough to be a Solution Centre so we do not get any direct referrals. Our customers have to search and find us on the web. We get a lot of enquiries considering and our hit rate when we get a contact is excellent. This is down to price (at least 20% lower than a Nav Solution Centre day rate), service proposition (we listen and turn around requests very quickly) and meeting the clients specific needs.
More details on www.dynamicsnavconsultant.co.uk.
Currently offering 20% off our normal day rates of £550 per day plus VAT. So that makes it £440 per day. Email us for more details at neil.fraser@fraserpriceconsulting.co.uk.
Next blog either later today or tomorrow. Promise to update regularly now!

Thursday 10 March 2011

Not so long since the last update!

Another busy week. Dynamics Nav GL data migration completed for a client. Consolidation then completed and at a client site this week testing data. More testing to follow but Jan 2011 data signed off. Created new sql database for customer against specific requirements for Europe. Short term fix for client.
Dynamics Nav development completed for client re exporting / importing physical journal from / to Nav re stock counts and Excel.
Started Dynamics Nav RTC general and navigation training material. Using Classic version of training material as a start point but quite a few changes to include.
Just had a phone call from someone looking for Dynamics CRM and Nav experience. We do not have CRM so that will be another potential client lost. Sent out email to business contacts to see if anyone knows of someone with Dynamics CRM online skills. That way in the future we can pass on the contact to someone rather than lose the contact totally. Need to have a chat with someone re integration (and I mean integration) of CRM and Nav. If MS Accounting (RIP) and Outlook with BCM could provide seemless integration, surely CRM online and Nav 2009 can! Answers on a post card! Or if you do have this expertise, email me on neil.fraser@fraserpriceconsulting.co.uk.
Seems a short list of tasks completed this week but knackered! That's all for now!

Monday 7 March 2011

My goodness how time flies!

It has been a while since my last blog. Down to time pressures and work load I am afraid! But this is a good thing! :)
Dynamics Nav work increased significantly in the last 2 months. Includes application configuration and data migration training on site for one client and multiple company configuration and data migration for another client. Used the new data migration tool in Dynamics Nav for the first time and it definitely has its pros and cons. Some bits are great (data validation) but other bits are a step backwards. Creating the data migration fields in each business pre import is a pain in the neck. I don't need to do this for dataports - one dataport can be used for all businesses. Also some of the data validation works in part not in full. Default dimensions is an example.
Dynamics Nav work schedule looking good but always room for improvement!
Off to client site tomorrow for Dynamics Nav consolidation data tick off just to make sure meeting the needs of the client re part consolidations etc. Need to schedule a development recently signed off to start end of this week. Client to confirm date required by which will determine when we need to start.
Awaiting sign off of development quote by a client. Not much development in the pipeline - mostly application configuration and data migration.
Fraser IT and bookkeeping services formally re-launched via leaflet campaign. Leaflet drop localled started with a few to finishing in a month or so. Leaflet is double sided - one for bookkeeping and one for IT services. Watch this space for a reaction. Hoping for more customers on both services.
Thats all for now folks.

Wednesday 19 January 2011

Is it Wednesday already?

Busy week again this week. Mostly internal admin stuff including the major update of our Fraser It Services web site. See www.fraseritservices.co.uk for more details.
Dynamics Nav development quoted for signed off and PO numbers confirmed. Started today. Further enhancements to client's telesales process using standard Nav To Dos functionality. Using colours for To Do lists using a new bespoke table.
Consolidation work in Dynamics Nav continues. All requested report templates set up on standard Nav Accounts Schedules bar 1. Will fix the one missing later! Cannot test what has been created (except the basics like balancing balance sheet) until data imported as part of the consolidation process. Same client asking for training and more report templates. Work now on hold waiting for 3rd party to client approving proposed GL. Once done, more businesses (non consolidation) to be created in Nav.
Updated cash flow for latest on customers settling their debts. Not good this month! Contact from 1 client confirming they will agree schedule of payments to clear 6 month old debt this week. Not holding my breath!
Fraser Price Consulting web page updated for better links. Dynamics Consultant web page (www.dynamicsnavconsultant.co.uk/) updated for latest pricing and service lists.
That's all for now!

Friday 14 January 2011

Another week another dollar

Dynamics Nav consolidated billing development loaded into test database and UAT requested from client.
Modified a Dynamics Nav development for another client for their customer excellence process. Simple fix to validate whether a customer can be added to the customer excellence process or not. All weekly reports to clients completed as usual. Spoke to a few of my business contacts this week - just a quick chat re how busy we all are etc. January generally quiet from a Nav development point of view. Phone call meeting later today on potential more Nav reporting via accounts schedule work. Fingers crossed. Next week will be completing the accounts schedule work to date on the live database and requesting customer approval.
Need to think through Dynamics Nav part consolidations and eliminations between group companies. Do not want to use Dynamics Nav intercompany postings functionality as this is a little over the top. Think cap on next week. Suggested to client a solution via developing a new report that uses rules as confirmed and the account schedules line and column layouts as base so that users can still maintain reporting.
Have a great week end all!

Thursday 13 January 2011

Just a quick blog

A few phone calls yesterday from potential clients asking for quotes. Will wait and see if anything comes from it. Also had some phone calls for services we do not provide. Passed onto contacts that do provide the service.
Latest web site iDevice completed (50%) and Google Ads modified for it. Fraser IT services web pages unchanged but Google Ads refined. For more on iDevice application design, see our web page www.ideviceappdesign.co.uk.
On site at a client today to run through Dynamics Nav consolidation routine (and specific test configuration created for demo) using Accs Sch for reporting. Fits all their needs apart from part consolidations. Proposed develop a report that uses the Acc Sch functionality but includes code to eliminate tranactions between businesses consolidated in part consolidation.More work to do but this is good! :)
That's all for now.

Tuesday 11 January 2011

Another week...

Not much to write about this week. Still chasing debts - no response at all from 1 client so that is not looking good! May need to suspend services which I never link doing!
Just bought 2 new domains for iDevice application design and developments. To try and boost sales on the iphone developments. Pilot iphone application completed this week and way forward agreed with our client. Next stage is a get together with the client (and all effected members of client staff) and confirm the final requirements for the application so that we can start the final stage of the development. Web page design started for new domain and tomorrow we will load initial pages with key words and set up a new campaign on Google Ad words.
Last year (2010) not a good year for securing Dynamics Nav clients. Managed to get some but most did not want our services. May be we are too expensive but rumblings in the Dynamics Nav market suggest demand for consultants is growing. Keeping fingers crossed.
Managed to load in Dynamics Nav test consolidation company into client's live database ready for an on site meeting to run through Thursday this week.
That's all for now folks!

Friday 7 January 2011

Why is it Friday's are by far the quietest day?

A strange and recent feature of business at the moment - Friday's are really quiet!
Started on the step by step instructions on consolidated billing development for client which will facilitate final testing and hand over to client for UAT. Should be all done and dusted from an FPC point of view by a week today. Forgot to say yesterday that the iphone development for tree trails (pilot) complete for last set of changes pre demo. Hopefully main client contact will view today / tomorrow and then we can agree a way forward for demoing to a larger audience and agree a way forward which includes recovering development costs!
IT configuration and installation work completed today. Need to determine whether we are going to do this full time in the business or not! Lucrative work is Dynamics Nav (high value ticket) but book keeping and PC installs and configuration work generate revenue as larger volumes, lower ticket values. If that makes sense!
That's all for now. Next week Dynamics Nav work will be loading in first consolidated business for client and finishing consolidated billing work for another client.

Thursday 6 January 2011

Dynamics Nav work completed this week

Started this week with the consolidation work in Dynanics Nav for a client. Created a new business (standard default set up), configured for consolidation (create business unit list), assigned mapping GLs for businesses to be consolidated (referred to as Consol Dr and Consol Cr on each businesses chart of accounts) and tested! All ok and TB created balances! How could it not!! ;)
Then started work creating report templates on the consolidated business using client defined formats for rows as well as column headings. Standard financial reporting (I used to run finance departments and report results each month) so no major issues and clients wants to see the results and test for themselves. Done and ready to load into live as a separate business. Client granted permission so first stage of work will be complete by early next week. Booked meeting at client site next week to run through how to use Dynamics Nav consolidation.
Chased debts this week. Not my favourite job as while ever I am doing that, I am not doing chargeable time.
Still no access to bank account on the internet and Lloyds TSB don't seem to give a stuff. Or all their phone lines are down and they have not been able to call me and provide regular updates as to when the issue is fixed.
An old saying is 'if you cannot get the service, walk!'. So opening a new business bank account with Nat West. They are also local to the village and charge the same rates as Lloyds TSB. Should have a new account in a week or so and then we can start transition of client payments. Then I might have visibility of account transactions. Not much to ask surely!!!
Also confirmed status of Dynamics Nav developments for another client and agreed the next steps for the new year. 2/3rds of developments completed and the final 1/3rd will be complete by close of next week.
That's all folks!

Tuesday 4 January 2011

Happy new year!

Well a new year is upon us! Hope you all have a cracking new year and a restful break.
Straight back into support on Dynamics Nav with the change in the VAT rate from today. all done! Easy in Nav - the only complication is how to deal with existing sales and purchase documents.

Now a grumpy old man moment - my business's bank!! I have now been without internet banking for a month. No matter how much I phone up Lloyds TSB, this does not seem to be a priority for Lloyds. We have now resorted to telephone banking and cheques for payments. How very old fashioned. Nat West coming to see me tomorrow so we can resolve this issue asap. A shame as we started the business with LloydsTSB!
Anyway that is enough for the first blog for a month! Onwards and upwards!
